Takashi Murakami “Mr. Pointy”

One of the most complicated public exhibits ever, “Mr. Pointy” included two 30-foot diameter inflatables which tested every engineering equation. A temporary guy wire rigging system was designed that acted like a cradle to support these tremendous balloons filled with helium providing 800lbs of lift. The exhibit was in place when a tropical storm with 50 mph winds hit NYC and there was no damage to the exhibit. Specially designed concrete platforms in free-formed shapes with incredible detail were constructed in order to support the weight of the steel frame structure of the fiberglass figures.
